JANUARY 30 - FEBRUARY 3

MRS WELLS
LANGUAGE ARTS FOR THE WEEK OF :  Jan. 30 – Feb. 3


**Spelling – We will have a test over these words on Friday, 2/3.

**English
We will learn about adjectives that compare.

** Reading
  We will read the story “Frogs”.  We will do related comprehension, vocabulary, and skills activities.  Our focus will be compare/contrast and graphic organizers.

**Writing
We will write about some of our favorite things.

**Cursive
We will continue to write words using lower case letters.  We will learn the following capital letters:  M, N, W, X, and Y.


**HOMEWORK
We will have a take home reader on Tuesday this week.  Your child will bring home a story that should be read to an adult.  The story booklet should be signed by the person listening to the story and returned to school on Wednesday.



**BOOK IT – JANUARY GOAL – 250 MINUTES  - DUE 1/30.
FEBRUARY GOAL OF 250 MINUTES WILL BE DUE FEBRUARY 28.
For the next few months we will be participating in the Book It at-home reading program sponsored by Pizza Hut.  At the beginning of each month your child will be given a calendar with that month’s reading goal.  Your child will read the specified number of minutes, have the calendar signed by an adult, and return the calendar to school by the due date.  When the calendar is returned to school, I will give your child a coupon for a FREE personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut.  Your child will also receive a 100% as a Book It reading grade.  Failure to complete this assignment will result in a 0% as a Book It reading grade.

WEEK OF JANUARY 23 - 27

 LANGUAGE ARTS

  We will read the story “Life Cycle of a Pumpkin”.  We will do related comprehension, vocabulary, and skills activities.  Our focus will be fact/opinion and asking questions.

**Writing
We will write about something we do that is an annual event.

**Cursive
We will continue to write words using lower case letters.  We will learn the following capital letters:  A, O, C, E, and Q.


**HOMEWORK

*time to five minute intervals
*use a thermometer to gather data
*problem solving strategy using time
*chapter 8 review and test

WEEK OF JANUARY 9 - 13



LANGUAGE ARTS

  We will read the story “A Quilt Story”.  We will do related comprehension, vocabulary, and skills activities.  Our focus will be compare/contrast and story structure.

**Writing
We will write about friendships and things that are valuable to us.

**Cursive
We are writing words using lower case letters.  This is going to take practice.  Please ask your child to write a few words in cursive each night.


**HOMEWORK

*  problem solving investigation
*  chapter 7 tests

We will continue to review addition and subtraction with regrouping. 
We will review these multiplication tables:  2, 3, 5, and 10.
