APRIL 9 - 13

MRS WELLS
LANGUAGE ARTS FOR THE WEEK OF :  April 9 - 13


**Spelling – We will have a test over these words on Friday, 4/13.

**English
We will review when to use quotation marks.

** Reading
  We will read the story “Red, White, and Blue”.  We will do related comprehension, vocabulary, and skills activities.  Our focus will be fact and opinion.

**Writing
We will write about American symbols.


*Cursive
We will write cursive sentences and attempt to transpose print to cursive.


**HOMEWORK
We will have a take home reader on Tuesday this week.  Your child will bring home a story that should be read to an adult.  The story booklet should be signed by the person listening to the story and returned to school on Wednesday.

WELLS' MATH
We will begin a new unit this week about measuring length and area.  We will focus on these skills:
*nonstandard units
*measure inches using models
*problem solving strategy
*use an inch ruler
*measure centimeters using models
We will continue to learn the 4's multiplication tables in order and mixed-up.

WEEK OF MARCH 26 - 30




MRS WELLS
LANGUAGE ARTS FOR THE WEEK OF :  March 26 - 30

WEAR TENNIS SHOES TUESDAY, THURSDAY, AND FRIDAY!


**Spelling – We will have a test over these words on Friday, 3/30.

**English
We will review when to use capital letters.

** Reading
  We will read the story “Just Like Josh Gibson”.  We will do related comprehension, vocabulary, and skills activities.  Our focus will be realism and fantasy.

**Writing
We will write about baseball.


*Cursive
We have learned the entire lower and upper case cursive alphabet!  We will be focus on writing words and sentences.


**HOMEWORK
We will have a take home reader on Tuesday this week.  Your child will bring home a story that should be read to an adult.  The story booklet should be signed by the person listening to the story and returned to school on Wednesday.



**BOOK IT – MARCH GOAL – 250 MINUTES  - DUE 3/29.
MARCH GOAL OF 250 MINUTES WILL BE DUE MARCH 29.
For the next few months we will be participating in the Book It at-home reading program sponsored by Pizza Hut.  At the beginning of each month your child will be given a calendar with that month’s reading goal.  Your child will read the specified number of minutes, have the calendar signed by an adult, and return the calendar to school by the due date.  When the calendar is returned to school, I will give your child a coupon for a FREE personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut.  Your child will also receive a 100% as a Book It reading grade.  Failure to complete this assignment will result in a 0% as a Book It reading grade.

We will continue to write words using lower case letters.  We will learn the following capital letters:  R, L, and B.
